Play on: Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim +145 first 5 innings
Angels are 3-14 in their last 17 road games and 3-7 in their last 10 versus Oakland, but we'll take a shot here in the first five innings with Anaheim in what should be another game with plenty of runs: LAA and the A's have gone OVER the total in 8 of their last 11 meetings.
Anaheim left-hander and California native Patrick Sandoval gave up only one hit and three walks while striking out nine through five scoreless innings versus the Texas Rangers last Wednesday. Although he didn't factor into the decision after being pulled before facing hitters a third time, he forced 20 swinging strikes while on the mound. Look for Sandoval to pick up where he left off versus an A's lineup that is hitting a paltry .175 versus lefties in their last 10 games.
It won't be easy for the Angels at the plate with veteran A's right-hander Tanner Roark getting the start and looking to rebound from his last outing versus the Royals where he surrendered a pair of two run home runs but otherwise pitched well. In fact, it was the only bad start for Roark in the month of August, and the 32 year old is producing a career high in strike outs per 9 innings at 8.66 K/9. Don't look for the wheels to fall off for Roark today, but rather find the value in a big left-hander like Sandoval to keep it interesting in the first 5 innings at +145.
